John Gibbons is a Partner in the Transaction Advisory Services – Corporate
Restructuring division of Ernst & Young, Sydney.
He has specialised in the Corporate Recovery,
Restructuring and Reorganisation area for more than 20 years
and during that time has been involved with a number of high
profile corporate failures. He is currently the Liquidator
of LibertyOne Limited, the first internet and multi-media
company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.
In April 1999, John was appointed Administrator
of New Cap Reinsurance Corporation and subsequently became
Liquidator. New Cap Reinsurance was the first failure in
the general collapse of the reinsurance industry in Australia.
The liquidation has involved major cross-jurisdictional issues
and focussed the spotlight on particular aspects of Australian
Corporations and Insurance Law which impact on insurance
and reinsurance insolvencies in Australia.
John was also the co-author of a report
on the status of HIH which was issued in the months leading
up to that organisation’s demise. That report was the
subject of considerable coverage by the HIH Royal Commission.
